After the success of last year's Cinco de Mayo and Dia del Nino festivals, Philadelphia's Magic Gardens (PMG) is ready to bring even more Mexican folk culture to 1020 South St. While the official day isn't until Nov. 2, PMG is preparing to celebrate "El dia de los muertos" all month long. More commonly known as the Day of the Dead, the Gardens have three events lined up to cater to any and all.

 âœš Family Jam

While this is technically an every-Sunday hap, the upcoming session is dedicated to building the traditional Day of the Dead altar, the "ofrenda." Participants are encouraged to decorate paper flags (or papel picados), as well as cut out and decorate their own paper puppets, so it'll be an ideal outing for the kids. Handwritten notes in remembrance of those already gone will be offered up at the altar once it's completed. Sun., Oct. 9, noon-4 p.m., free with museum admission.

✚ Music & Mosaics

As a part of PMG's Music & Mosaics Concert series, artist Ana Vizcarra Rankin will construct a tent-like wooden huppa structure with a slew of prints, sugar skulls and lanterns. While that's going on, slide on through the space for dance lessons from the Society Hill Dance Academy, which is followed by the Cuban-rootted sounds of Conjunto Philadelphia. Expect a whole lot more than the run-of-the-mill cha-cha. To ensure that everyone hits the dance floor, free sangria is promised. Sat., Oct. 15, 7 p.m.-10 p.m., $20.

✚ Paper Mâché Workshop

Renowned paper mache artist Joel Garcia will set up shop to impart his knowledge on the traditional Mexican method of paper-mâché construction. Throughout the weekend, Garcia will assist students with the process of shaping the figures and painting the newly formed objects. Sat.-Sun., Oct.29-30, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. or 2 p.m.-4 p.m., $120.
