ICE PACK ILLUSTRATED: Mikey, Johnny, House of Blues and more.
Weird that I ran into Shannon Webber Wednesday morning. I hadn't seen the Philly punk mistress in some time. First thing she said to me was that she had been to visit the long ailing Philly punk-before-you-were-a-punk Mikey Wild in hospice at 18th and South the night previous. "He'll be in rock 'n' roll heaven soon," said Webber. She couldn't have known how soon, as The Mayor of South Street passed away that morning.

Weird that I ran into Shannon Webber Wednesday morning. I hadn’t seen the Philly punk mistress in some time. First thing she said to me was that she had been to visit the long ailing Philly punk-before-you-were-a-punk Mikey Wild in hospice at 18th and South the night previous. “He’ll be in rock ‘n’ roll heaven soon,” said Webber. She couldn’t have known how soon, as The Mayor of South Street passed away that morning. The outsider artist will be celebrated starting on June 18, 5-8 p.m. at Pageant Soloveev Gallery, 607 Bainbridge St. You can scan City Paper’s back issues for scads of stories that I wrote on Wild, and drop off condolences at the gallery space.
Philly expatriate Johnny Makeup’s adopted father/rent dad Dov Charney of American Apparel fame has his cock all over Gawker.com right now. Whee. See it here.
Queen Village’s house of meatballs Village Belle starts its “Behind Belle’s Bar” series this Thu., May 26, with Emilio Mignucci of DiBruno Bros. slicing cheeses from his shop and chatting about food, life in the Italian Market and whatever else guests are interested in learning about.
Everyone remembers that David Grasso was ready to launch two different House of Blues venues in the Philly area: one at 15th and Chestnut (where he wound up putting a Del Frisco’s Steaks) and one between 16th and 17th on Washington Ave. Eh. They didn’t happen. But that space at Beach and Richmond that he got to book with Live Nation’s backing, all 8,000 square feet, is going to be the House of Blues he always wanted. Live Nation owns the HoB brand, and Grasso got the nightclub zoning variance that Frank DiCicco pushed through before Council’s seasonal session ended. All they need is to finalize the parking arrangement.
Undoubtedly you know paisan Dino Lionetti as the sound guy at The Fire. But he’s also gaining steam as a noise monger and principle member of Cheap Dinosaurs. With that, Lionetti plays The Troc’s Balcony on May 27 with Jon Baken (of George & Jonathan) and Starskream (love their split single with Anamanaguchi).
Varga Bar is looking for ladies to pose as pinup models for its annual calendar. Are you an amateur strip tease? Email three photos including one full-body shot, and three reasons you’d like to pose for a local bar to Vargadollface2012@gmail.com.
Philadelphia’s Wes Pentz — international DJ Diplo to you — gives readers of Vanity Fair his tour diary. Read here.
If you haven’t noticed, the Society Hill Hotel Bar spot at Third and Chestnut, purchased by Copabanana guys Bill Curry and co. for their Monkey Bar location has been hosting sneak peeks of the hot spot as a nearly-finished work in progress. So far it looks dusky and weirdly romantic in a Copa way.
Everyone’s favorite upstate PA weirdos, Lewis & Clark, are hosting shows so to help supplement the recording of a new album. The first show is at Kung Fu Necktie on June 1.
WHOWHATWHERE: When The Plaza had its kick off party at Table 31’s usual Thursday night slob dance, NBC10’s weather guy Dave Warren was there. Then again, so was I. What’s wrong with us? That place is a tacky zoo. Days later I found myself at Club 879 on Chestnut Street to meet up with Mob Wives’ Drita D’avanzo after her appearance at The Galdo. While she told me that yes indeed the mobbed up girl show will get a second season, her new pal, fight club man Damon Feldman had his own talking to do. Sure he’s still taking Jose Canseco — or the fake Canseco who happens to be his twin, Ozzie — to court for not showing up at one of Feldman’s faux boxing matches. But Feldman tells me he’s got more than a defamation issues against Philly’s FOP, is writing a movie script and will soon bring The Situation’s dad to Philly for a club appearance. “He’s the new Michael Lohan,” says Feldman of the Jersey Shore star’s pop. Hmm. Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer from TNT’s new Franklin & Bash series did the rounds when they came to Philly, hitting Dave & Buster’s, Buddakan and the Rittenhouse Hotel. Celebrity Apprentice and Real Housewife of Atlanta Nene Leakes with Kenny Lattimore and Angie Stone — all stars of Loving Him is Killing Me which played at the Merriam Theater — hung out before the show’s brief run at Miss Tootsies. Pauly Shore didn’t hit the Trocadero for laughs when he was in town. He went to Helium, Geno’s and the Continental Midtown where he was heard to have been openly flirting — at the Continental not Geno’s. Hours before standing in front of the Felton Supper Club and condemning the violence within, Mayor Michael Nutter held court at the Westin Hotel’s Chamber Music Society of Philadelphia bash for Gamble & Huff. “My being here proves that the world didn’t end at 6 p.m.,” said Nutter. Arctic Monkeys monkeyed around at Gunners Run at after their show at Electric Factory. Dr. Ruth Westheimer hung out at Loews Hotel and gave safe sex tips after she won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mazzoni Center. Stone Temple Pilot Scott Weiland signed books, his Not Dead & Not For Sale at Bookends in NJ. David Guietta spun some numbers, including snippets of his still unfinished new music at Q102’s Xfinity Performance Theater in Bala Cynwyd last week. No word yet on whether he met up with local collaborator/mixer Ian Cross with whom he’s working on an Usher song.
