Jose Garces may be busy at the Kimmel Center, readying his work-in-progress restaurant on the first floor for early autumn. But rumor has Jose eyeballing a tony taco-teria for North Broad Street near the Vie/Alla Spina/Route 6 complex. Stay away from Cobra. They ain’t looking for company.
Crooner Eddie Bruce will host the 10th Gary Papa Run for Prostate Cancer, June 17, at Philly’s Museum of Art. “Gary was special,” says Bruce who has done the honors three years running.
Philly event planner Lindsay Furman is now on NBC’s Love in the Wild, dropping into the action last Tuesday after the jungle dating show started weeks previous. Wish Furman would take the host gig from Jenny McCarthy. Too annoying.
Last time we saw Wes Pentz — Philly’s Diplo to you — he was at the Roots Picnic debuting new Major Lazer tracks (like “Bubblebutt”) and whipping off his shirt (Dip needs a workout for that flabalanche he’s having). WHOWHATWHERE: SouthWest Philly is known for Lee Daniels, swingers clubs near the oil refinery and me. Suddenly another SWP native, Shannon Kelly, is in that hallowed pantheon with her part in Fox’s celeb-matchmaking show The Choice. ➤ ABC’s senior White House correspondent Jake Tapper was keynote speaker at Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy's graduation on June 7, where he met up with Len and Lynne Barrack, the school’s primary benefactors. ➤ Jimmy Fallon and 50 Cent again? The pair appeared at West Chester’s QVC Tuesday to promote a new CD Blow Your Pants Off and a set of SMS audio headphones. Guess who was hawking what. ➤ Author/rock ex-wife Angela Bowie hit Tattooed Mom’s to join in on promoter Dennis McHugh’s birthday activities and read from her new work Lipstick Legends of which she only brought one copy. After she read, she sold the book to Breaking Glass Pictures’ Richie Wolff and Susan Helfrich. ➤ After playing host to Philly’s Toy Soldiers at her home in Austin, Tex. (see Ice-in-print), food fave Rachael Ray came east on her The Book Of Burger tour at Barnes & Noble in New Jersey. ➤ Nights before she started her tour at World Café Live, Lisa Marie Presley and family were spied eating at Smith & Wollensky at the Rittenhouse and down the street from me at Ralph’s in the Italian Market. The stars of the Susquehanna Bank Center’s Club Paradise tour – Drake, Waka Flocka Flame, 2 Chainz – made their presence known over the weekend. While Waka entertained fans at Power 99, 2 Chainz could barely rouse himself from a deep sleep, coming out of his tour bus to greet all in his PJs. The next morning, Drake joined Paradise attendee and Philly hip-hop sensation Meek Mills at the steps of the Art Museum for a good old video shoot for their duet, “Amen.” Not so sure how God would feel, what with their “Amen” video starring more than a few local strippers, but hey.
