ICEPACK ILLUSTRATED: Neil Stein, Cee Lo, Taylor Swift and Vanilla Ice

We mentioned before that we heard talk of Neil Stein (Rouge, Striped Bass) looking at spaces for his next restaurant along Washington Square and in the South Street/Head House area. But it sounds as if he's picked City Garden (or at least its 1801 JFK Boulevard address) for a nu-bistro idea of his.

ICEPACK ILLUSTRATED: Neil Stein, Cee Lo, Taylor Swift and Vanilla Ice

Remember a few weeks ago I previewed the 2011 Pew Fellows in the Arts by mentioning that Philly poet CA Conrad had been awarded a wad of cash? The rest of the list just came out and it’s a basketful of avant-guards what with Buchla synth musician/composer Charles Cohen, set designer Jorge Cousineau, choreographer Tania Isaac, architect Brian Philips and harmolodic kingpin Jamaaladeen Tacuma on the list.

Speaking of free jazz and beyond, guitarist Stephen Buono was reminiscing to me about the once wild and formidable avant jazz series at Gojjo in West Philly. “That gig had a lot of momentum and became a great scene,” says Buono. “A lot of great artists came from there.” Now, Buono and many of those familiar Gojjo pals will get together for the “first time after a two year break” to hit the Green Line Café, 4500 Locust on June 21. Buono’s own Split Red is on the bill with special guest Rick Iannacone as is Philly’s Matt Stein and his Hope & Feathers, the Jeff Davis/Landon Knoblock Trio and NYC’s Oscar Noriega (of Tim Berne, Paul Motian, Lee Konitz fame). If this one works, Buono may make this a monthly of “PHL ensembles, with the occasional out-of-towner.”

Want to smell like Taylor Swift in anticipation of her Aug. 6 Linc date? The Berks County-born 21-year-old just partnered with Elizabeth Arden to create her first perfume, Wonderstruck. Stay classy.

Talk about staying classy: Professional dad/Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew star Michael Lohan joins forces (again — we have snaps of the pair at South Philly Tap Room) with the icon of local celebrity boxing Damon Feldman for a reality-show pitch that kicks off this weekend in Havertown, The Lohan Project. Go to W.C. Murphy’s (1254 West Chester Pike), July 22, 7-10 p.m., and you who want to be models, singers or actor/actresses can be mentored on television (if the series gets picked up) by a man who knows how to handle kids.

We mentioned before that we heard talk of Neil Stein (Rouge, Striped Bass) looking at spaces for his next restaurant along Washington Square and in the South Street/Head House area. But it sounds as if he’s picked City Garden (or at least its 1801 JFK Boulevard address) for a nu-bistro idea of his.

The king of swinging guitar and happy patter, Marty Grosz, will be at Mermaid Inn on July 23. I spoke to him for CP in December, and he mentioned that a new CD is in the works. Any day now is what we’re hearing.

The Rodin Museum’s gardens, grounds and courtyards may have finally been returned to their legendary luster and lushness, but you’ll only have until Sept. 6 to enjoy the museum proper as it closes until Spring 2012 for its own renovations. Thankfully, those newly renewed grounds and garden areas will be open during what would be museum hours.

Gleaners Café in the Italian Market offers the friends of the late punk/artist Mikey Wild a chance to look at their collection of Wild etchings and a last shot at donating to a worthy cost: His family’s still dealing with funeral costs. That’s July 22.

No joke: The other night I saw a spent can of Four Loko near my house and I thought of Adsum and Matt Levin, and how the exec chef had made that a sweet part of one of his wildest menu pairings (the Tastykake Kandy Kake sliders weren’t bad either). The fried chicken, the pierogies — I was on my way to Adsum (plus, I wanted to know who in my neighborhood had that Four Loko stashed?) Then I heard, thanks to Michael Klein, that Levin was moving away from the Queen Village eaterie by July 24. He’ll still co-own it with Kar Vivekananthan but is looking elsewhere for his next step on the zealous food map. Good on you.

The Bookspace in NoLibs will have itself a downtempo disco party on its bookish hands when Casimir and Weird Hot hit the roaring library on July 22.

Another single track release by suburban stoner MC Asher Roth? Yeah. “Last Man Standing” is out on iTunes with an official video landing in early August. Promise though, there will be full length album news to follow soon after the vid drops.

Proving that there is foodie life in New Jersey, the Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival kicks off its festivities with a Bikinis and Martinis pre-bash at the open-air Chelsea’s Cabana Club on July 28. Co-sponsored by the Food Network and The Chelsea Hotel, the network’s formidable Philly-area Iron Chef Jose Garces will hang with other FN stars Darryl Harmon, Ron Duprate and J. Geoffrey Johnson and offer up cocktails like the Montini a signature beer martini hand crafted by award-winning writer and brew master, Gary Monterosso.

WHOWHATWHERE: Speaking of A.C., Cee Lo Green was quite the whirlwind after his opening set for Rihanna at the Borgata. Remember back in June he quit her Loud tour due to commitments on The Voice and a book project? Well, Live Nation boss Geoff Gordon asked that Green do this one show. And Mixx at the Borgata had him hosting a party on Sunday, so why not? Green traipsed around the Borgata Event Center Signing autographs, posing with fans and drinking from a bottle of Patron until he hit the VIP area. That’s where I ran face-first into him (a cell phone photo exists that simply isn’t Icepack Illustrated quality). Then he ran to Mixx to do his host bit and sing a few songs when in comes Rihanna and her crew. Upon arrival she grabbed a camera and started videotaping the crowd before jumping on Green’s shoulders for a trip around Mixx. Later, she requested Bob Marley songs from Mixx’s DJ, Ruckus. The next day, Green was fresh as a daisy (OK, he was a little late) to a planned hang at WDAS-FM studios where he did station IDs and other radio ephemera. Then Cee Lo ran to CHOP for The Voice. That has nothing to do with Green’s NBC TV program. The Voice is the multimedia center that American Idol host Ryan Seacrest opened last Friday, the space where kids can interact with music technology and media biz minutiae. For instance, Cee Lo was interviewed by a CHOP patient and their chat was broadcast live via TV in patients’ rooms. As discussed last week in Ice, Seacrest himself stopped by CHOP for a dedication and a dinner at Four Seasons with surprise guest Selena Gomez who also hung out and chatted with CHOP patients. Cool program, this. We also caught up with “Gucci Gucci” girl-hop sensation Kreayshawn who made a visit to Power 99. Then there was Jonas BrosJoe Jonas who stopped for a Q&A at Q102 FM studios and brought along a few early demos for his solo CD due to be released in 2012. Back in Atlantic City, The Pool at Harrah’s was held in thrall by Vanilla Ice. Yes he hosted a party. Yes he did “Ice Ice Baby.” Yes, he has a television reality show, The Vanilla Ice Project on the DIY Network where he’s renovating a home in Palm Beach. Then there’s Suzanne Park. The shy-and-retiring Philadelphia native make-up artist/holistic therapist will finally get her episode of N.Y. Ink aired as the series finale, July 21. There you can see her winged guardian angel Jimi Hendrix tattoo in the making.
