ICEPACK ILLUSTRATED: Space 1026 breaches the Darkness, Sean Agnew touches the water, the Angel isn’t so blue and who wants Charlie Gracie Day?

I scream you scream we all scream for a high concept Chinese German beer haus menu. Ta da. Bierstube opened last night at 206 Market.

In reaction to the passing of Soul Train’s Don Cornelius, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, the composers of that show’s #1 hit theme song (“TSOP”), released a joint statement. “Don Cornelius and his creation of ‘Soul Train’ and its legacy had a great impact on American culture. Don’s vision allowed for African-American artists to be exposed to people all over the world through the power of television. We were glad to help Don Cornelius fulfill his dream and legacy by creating the theme song for his hit show. The ‘Soul Train’ and TSOP brands will forever be inseparable. We thank Don Cornelius for his tremendous contributions to the entertainment world. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Don’s family and everyone he touched.”

Back in 2009, Icepack printed a rumor that Stephen Starr was gearing up to re-open L’Ange Bleu or, rather, Blue Angel, my favorite of Starr’s restaurants and his first excursion onto Chestnut Street. In 2012, it looks like his Angel will finally sprout wings according to Collin Flatt at the Philly division of Eater.com. His partner in crime at Talula’s Garden, chef Aimee Olexy (the original GM of Blue Angel) will be in charge of the new Blue Angel which is promised to look just like the old Blue Angel. Just make it taste the same and all will be well with the world.

Speaking of Washington West, it seems as if that neighborhood’s association (WSWCA) does not want the folks at Recess Lounge (3 Nerds LLC) to sprout a Philly version of The Greenhouse at 725 Chestnut. Nothing could be good about moving mouthy hanger-outs from Old City to WashWest it seems.

As if talking with radio jock Jacky Bam Bam wasn’t enough, Philly’s newest oldest hit maker Charlie Gracie, 75 years young and out there with a bullet with his new tune “Baby Doll,” is looking for his own day. Cameo Records, the label behind his new CD For the Love of Charlie, is trying to get the city to proclaim Feb. 25 “Charlie Gracie Day.” He’ll appear at Main Street Music in Manayunk on that afternoon and Dobbs Feb. 18. Let’s see what can be done here.

Hey while we’re looking at Philly honorees, shout it loud for the wonderful Loraine Ballard Morrill, the Philly radio maven who’ll receive the Favorite Straight Person of the Year award from AIDS Fund at Black-Tie GayBINGO on March 17 for all of her formidable works for the area’s HIV/AIDS charities.

Bravo TV’s Tabatha Coffey of Tabatha Takes Over fame name-dropped Jahmal Rhaney’s 2B Groomed barbershop on S. 11th as one of the ten best places in America to get a shave-and-a-haircut-two-bits in USA Today. We love her show and dig 2BG. Win-win.

Philly cabaret lass Karen Gross isn’t always singing catty love songs. Sometimes, she’s helllllpfull, like when she hosts events like Your Best Self in 2012” on Feb 5. The whole thing happens at Highland Farm Bed & Breakfast, the elegant one-time home of Broadway lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, at 70 East Road in Doylestown, PA. Gross will host this women’s-only workshop with health coach/NBC 10 contributor Ali Shapiro and wardrobe re-stylist Judith D’Andrea.

Rock Lobster. Octo. Whatever. That’s finito, Benito. Avram Hornik and his Union Transfer/Four Corners crew (Mark Fichera with Sean Agnew and some folk from Bowery Presents) snagged the outdoor Delaware Avenue/Columbus Blvd club for a seasonal run at craft-brew-sipping sandwich noshing hipsters on the waterfront. Bicycle parking at a Delaware Ave club — that’s g-g-g-rrrrrrrooovy. “There’ll be occasional bands and DJs but not like a dedicated venue,” says Agnew, the boss booking man at R5 who is a partner in the riverfront gamble. When asked about what is the schedule for starting up the Boot & Saddle, the South Broad spot Mr. Hornik has lassoed and hog-tied for Four Corners, Agnew reminds me that “Boot & Saddle still has to get approved.” Oh, that.

Before The Darkness unleash their glam metal powers (and new tracks like “Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us”) at the Troc on Feb. 7, may I suggest you take a peek at that new Space 1026-lensed video I mentioned several weeks back. Thom Lessner and Ted Passon made the video for the new single and you can check it out here with a behind the scenes glimpse here. “It’s all animated, all made in Philly at Space 1026 and all party,” says gallery mouthpiece Rose Luardo.

WHOWHATWHERE: Who says it didn’t really snow this winter? Brian Sanders and his friends from Andre Richard Salon, Philadelphia Airbrush Company and Noel Zayas Events threw the Snowball charity event at Hamilton Hall at UofArts. Brr. American Idol may be down in the ratings this year but that shouldn’t stop last year’s runner-ups from running around. James Durbin visits MIX 106.1 FM’s iHeart Radio Performance Theater in Bala Cynwyd last week. So maybe MTV mite Snooki isn’t allowed to film her reality show with J-Wowww in Hoboken, New Jersey. Though she is denying it, Star Magazine, the NY Post and Fox News are reporting she’s pregnant by boyfriend Jionni LaValle. And she’s got a boxing team — Team Snooki — who fought at Night Fever at Resorts in Atlantic City. Somebody call Damon Feldman. Pop singing thing JoJo hung out with Jessica Sabella (new on-air personality at 104.5) and Q102 jocks Maxwell and Romeo at Q’s Sexy Singles 2012 event at Palomar Hotel. New Found Glory went over like a led snowball at the Radio 104.5 Winter Jam 2012 at The Piazza. Kurt Vile and his crew hit the Spring Arts Preview at International House last week. SugarHouse isn’t just a haven for slots spinning and Eddie Bruce. They held a What Women Want — A Tropical Escape bash last week and all its execs (Britney Norman, Bryan Melon, Vicki Tilton) made an appearance. Vice President Joe Biden showed up at conference of chief justices at the Hotel Dupont in Wilmington, DE and insulted no one in the room — so why am I writing this if no one got the Biden bluster? And when Jaimoe Johanson, the drummer of Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band and founding member of the Allman Brothers played the TLA last week, he, bassist Dave Stoltz, and singer/guitarist Junior Mack hung out with local musicians Anthony Dominello and Mare Rozzelle. Several of them hit South Street’s Indian eatery Lovash before the big show.
