ICEPACK ILLUSTRATED: TV Casualty, Dancing With the Stars, Boot & Saddle, Hop Sing Laundromat and more.
The singularly named Lee of Hop Sing Laundromat texted me last night to say that while he was considering 11/11/11 for the loud opening of his quietly approaching bar, it just didn't seem right - a leak amongst those closest to him (he wouldn't say - he's too gentlemanly for that) had announced it to way too many people.

The singularly named Lee of Hop Sing Laundromat texted me last night to say that while he was considering 11/11/11 for the loud opening of his quietly approaching bar, it just didn’t seem right — a leak amongst those closest to him (he wouldn’t say — he’s too gentlemanly for that) had announced it to way too many people. He joked (we hope) about going on vacation in Europe before he was truly ready to pop the cork. As always, stay tuned. HSL passed its health inspection last week and awaits inspection from the Liquor Control Board. Across town, John Longacre’s American Sardine Bar at 18th and Federal passed its health inspection, waits for LCB to inspect and should open before next weekend.
Philly’s TV Casualty starring Brian Sokel (Franklin), Atom Goren (Atom and His Package), Andy Nelson (Paint It Black), and Chris Wilson (Ted Leo’s Pharmacists), just released a vinyl slab of Misfits covers to benefit Center City’s LGBT-specific Attic Youth Center (matadorrecords.com).
On Tuesday’s Dancing With the Stars a costume contest got announced — one where two of the show’s prancers would dress up and be voted on. Five finalists were announced including Amanda Wolff from Dresher, PA. a costume apprentice at the Walnut Street Theatre. Vote before midnight tonight.
I’ve heard rumblings in my neighborhood about Avram Hornik’s plan for the Boot & Saddle at Broad and Ellsworth not being up to South Broad Street Neighbors Association’s liking. They want things nice and quiet — whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? — and may put up a stink when the liquor license transfer comes-a-courtin’. It’s Broad Street, folks, not a residential block. Don’t make me put a boot up your saddle. Be nice.
Remember I said all those swell things about Roger Waters when he got all Pink Floyd-y at his big The Wall showcase at Wells Fargo? Surely, I’ll have bigger better things to say when he plays on July 14 at Citizens Bank Park. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday through ComcastTix.com.
Mike Walsh of the Franklin Mortgage (still pissed about that Remii splash page debacle) and Mitch Prensky of Supper and Global Dish Catering (who provide the Franklin with nibbles) will combine their talents for the space wot used to be Lucky 7 at 25th and Aspen.
Soundtracker/local Grammy committeeman Rodney Whittenberg is producing an album by his weird folksy friends in the Winterings and damn it to all-heck, they are playing the Psalm, Nov 4. Good show, old chap.
Some peripheral Philadelphia sorts are part of the Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs big show on Sunday — the Water Club’s Geoffrey Zakarian and Marcus Samuelsson, once-upon-a-time the exec chef at Stephen Starr’s ex-Washington Square space in its original incarnation.
Choreographer Kaleigh Jones and Pink Hair Affair sitting-in-a-tree. Let The Night Be Dark kicks it starting Nov.18-19 at Mascher Space 155 Cecil B. Moore Ave. Think pink.
WHOWHATWHERE: Icepack Illustrated’s most mustachioed photographer Scott Weiner is in Los Angeles snapping fellow Philadelphian Damon Feldman’s comfy-pillow-boxing fight this weekend at the Avalon in Hollywood, CA, so next week or so we’ll have plenty of photos of Lenny Dykstra vs. Jose Canseco, Joey Buttafuco vs. Lou Ballera, Octomom vs. Amy Fisher as well as Coolio, Tareq Salahi, Kato Kaelin, “Bombshell” McGee and Tila Tequila. Is that good? Not sure. In the meantime, we’ve got Anderson Cooper who hung around town before the snow promoting his new CNN talk show. We’ve got Boardwalk Empire empress Paz de la Huerta who hosted the Burlesque Halloween at Dusk at Caesars in Atlantic City. We’ve got Wiz Khalifa who not only played Powerhouse at the Wells Fargo Center but was spotted with his ex-Philly gal pal Amber Rose up and down Chestnut Street last weekend. And we’ve got the unholy union of G. Love and Tony Luke Jr. at Radio 104.5’s Performance Theater in Bala Cynwyd. Love was en route to Japan to play shows. Luke, a big G fan, had some pork sandwiches. The rest is yummy history. Also my spies spotted Frank Sinatra Jr. at Delmonico’s at the City Avenue Hilton with debonair radio host Sid Mark and the Ghost Hunters paranormal investigative crew — Lester Holt, Grant Wilson — haunting Eastern State Penitentiary. When Simon, Nick and the rest of Duran Duran sold out the Borgata over the snowy weekend, they got joined on stage by their producer, Mark Ronson, who later spun Duran hits during his chunk of a MIXX nightclub, set. Mark played the last song he worked on for Amy Winehouse (“Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?”) with sister/DJ Samantha Ronson (dressed as Justin Bieber during her neighboring mur.mur nightclub gig) by his side. Lastly, the newly out-of-prison T.I. dressed as Michael Vick this Halloween season. Fuckhead.
I love when AD ends his column with a variation of fuck. You can almost hear him say it in that narly rock kinda way. HughE
