LOL WITH IT: The Feeko Brothers, tonight @ PHIT

Every Friday, Ryan Carey covers the people and events that are giving Philly the giggles.
Last night, Philadelphia's own Feeko Brothers performed the first of their two-night run of “Crotch The
Throne.” This latest batch of sketches is among their funniest, staying true to the Feekos' biggest strengths: absurdity and salesmanship. They will pitch you a truly inane premise, and then sell it with so much conviction that, half the time, they end screaming at each other or at you. This formula would spill over the top or grow weary with a less-talented duo, but these Temple film grads are such compelling performers that they truly take you "in it" with them each and every time.
And it can be an alarming journey!
The Feekos' chops expand beyond selling you premise after ridiculous premise. Their writing decisions are so strong they seem to create the in-the-moment phenomena of improv theater with the razor conceptuality of modern sketch greats. Billy Bob (the skinny Feeko) teaches sketch-comedy writing at Philly Improv Theater, and both the bros are standups while they're not Feeking to high heavens.
The Feekos have twice won Don Montrey's Dirtiest Sketch in Philadelphia contest. In 2010, their winning sketch was called "A Slow Day at the Di1do Factory" but it wasn't about a di1do factory at all, but rather a meta-sketch based on the premise that before their performance, a man backstage with a gun forced them to engage in sexual intercourse with each other. They came out looking shaken and queasy, unable to look each other in the eye. They sold the crying and the vomiting so well that Billy Bob actually drank warm salt-water to induce on-stage regurgitation. The resulting "sketch" was so real (and foul!) that their victory was thought by the Philly comedy intelligentsia to be unsurpassable.
But as all eyes were on them in 2011's dirtiest contest to see what lows they would stoop to next, the Feeks once again outdid themselves with a Mad Men parody during which they forcefully deep-throated giant lollipops and drank vodka from a decanter in which a young lady playing their abused secretary had previously used to collect spit from every audience.
"Yeah, we vomitted after that one, too, that was pretty gross," commented Christian (aka the chubby Feeko, who was noticeably slimmer at last night's performance, probably to the chagrin of their manager).
But all is not scatological in Feekadelphia. Their inexplicably hilarious and incessantly catchy four-minute radio commercial for Jay Peebee's PB&J — a fictional restaurant that ONLY serves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches — won the 2011 Wit-Out Award (an award show celebrating comedy in Philadelphia) for best sketch of the year. Perhaps more impressively, they also won best sketch group.
Opening tonight for The Feeko Brothers are the hilarious gals of ManiPedi, who are recently back from the Ladies Are Funny Festival in Austin (they will also perform at Connie's Ric Rac on Fri., June 15).
