MISS DOCENT: Little Saigon, faceless rag dolls, and mountain racers

“The Ragdoll Project” at F&N Gallery

Philadelphia’s chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art, in collaboration with Circle of Hope church, is dragging an underground operation into the light with The Ragdoll Project. Viewers are beckoned by a window display imitating a Red Light District storefront, with an array of faceless rag dolls. Sound a little creepy? Good, because this installation aims to draw your attention to the modern day slavery of sex trafficking, through dolls made by volunteers alongside primarily Philadelphian artists’ visual artwork. The dolls will only be on display for a week, and during the opening reception a lucky few will be auctioned off. Proceeds go to Dawn’s Place, a local shelter for victims of trafficking.

Opening reception, Fri., April 6, 6-9 p.m., free, exhibit through April 27, F&N Gallery, 2009 Frankford Ave., theragdollproject.org
