MISS DOCENT: Two dozen skeletons and a half-dozen robots

Impressive permanent collections may have put our area museums on the map, but it's the rotating exhibits that keep visitors coming back. Every Thursday, Abigail Minor updates you on the newest and most browse-worthy.

The Franklin Institute's “Giant Mysterious Dinosaurs” exhibit is the place to go for creatures that are infinitely more fun to see than pronounce. Philadelphia resident “Dino” Don Lessem has spent years of research, excavation and reconstruction to make it possible for us to explore the largest private dinosaur collection in the world, which includes "two dozen skeletons, and a half-dozen robots, as well as several individual egg and nest fossils,” says Lessem. Until April, you can see, touch and even excavate models and fossils from around the globe. This exhibit isn't just for kids – everyone can learn from some quality time with an Amargasaurus.

Through April 15, $18.50-25, The Franklin Institute, 222 North 20th Street, 215-448-1200, www.fi.edu.
