MISS DOCENT: Bicentennials, earthquakes and mysterious cannonballs

POSTED: Thursday, March 22, 2012, 2:00 PM

"Home of the Brave" at Independence Seaport Museum

Oh say, can you see that cannonball hurtling towards us? In honor of the War of 1812’s bicentennial, the Home of the Brave exhibit seeks to commemorate and clarify this oft-overlooked war (the one that birthed our national anthem, incidentally). Among antique newspaper clippings, artwork and first-person accounts from the era are two formidable cannons available for your virtual re-enactment pleasure. But try not to get too trigger-happy — you can only fire the "cannons" after patiently watching an instructional  video on all the steps necessary for reloading.

Through Dec. 31, $10-$12, Independence Seaport Museum, 211 S. Columbus Boulevard at Walnut St., 215-413-8655, phillyseaport.org.
