Titanic Philadelphians” at Independence Seaport Museum

Titanic Philadelphians” drags the century-old tragedy into the here and now by looking deeply into the lives, and deaths, of Philadelphians aboard the Titanic. Saturday will be packed with exploratory sunken ship activities, such as a tin foil boat-building buoyancy exercise, continuous showings of the classic 1958 movie A Night to Remember, and a tour of the Olympia, a cruiser with inner workings similar to the Titanic. Following the “Seafarin’ Saturday” festivities is the “Stars on the River Gala”, with dinner, an exhibit tour and dancing enriched with the extravagant luxury of the Titanic, but hopefully without the salty ending.

Gala, Sat., April 14, 7 p.m., $250, exhibit through April 2013, $10-$15, Independence Seaport Museum, 211 S. Columbus Blvd., 215-413-8655, phillyseaport.org.
