NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH: Channel your inner hippie

Neighborhood Watch looks for Philly’s most fashionable. This week: Diana and Kelsey catch up with a birthday girl with an affinity for tube tops and an inner hippie who channels Stevie Nicks for fashion inspiration.

Birthday girl Maria poses on South Street

We caught Maria (19) on a South Street corner celebrating her birthday in a tube dress accented with a chunky turquoise necklace. She was sporting full Forever 21 attire, excluding her boots, which were Steven Madden.

Maria told us that she's looking forward to wearing “fun sundresses” and getting a lot of use out of her collection of colorful tube tops, which she calls her “guilty pleasure.” The birthday girl also shared that her favorite piece of clothing is a pair of white jeans she also purchased at Forever 21. When shopping, her shopping strategy is to find that perfect piece to accent an outfit and she prefers trendy pieces to classic essentials.

Meggie shows off one of her many mocassin selections

We met Meggie (28) outside of Head Area Salon (238 S. 11th St.). She was toting a floral shirt from Target, a high-waisted jean skirt from Forever 21, and a brown braided belt from Urban Outfitters.

Meggie pulls most of her inspiration from the '70s, shopping at vintage and thrift stores, and looks to Stevie Nicks for her style inspiration. Her face lit when she started talking about her eclectic footwear collection, which includes an assortment of moccasins and an authentic pair of Billie Jean cowboy boots. “They’re my pride and joy,” she said. To add to her collection, she says she's currently on the hunt for a pair of Native American-inspired sandals, with leather and beading being a must.
