Pair female playwrights with female directors and what do you get? One wifebeater, one torched husband, and one boyfriend shown the door for violent behavior (including fly-swatting). And that’s just in the first 30 minutes. Fortunately none of the six, original 10-minute plays that make up Girl on Gurl are feminist screeds: Joan Broadman’s smart Fly Away is as much a battle between meat-eater and animal (including fly) lover as a battle of the sexes. But the evening’s best entertainment focuses on women’s relationships and the cost of competition. So Happy For You is happy proof of the opposite, wonderful result of talented women working together.

Through Sept. 15, $15, Skinner Studio at Plays and Players, 1714 Delancey Place, third floor. MORE INFO HERE.
