One of the (many) benefits of living in a big city is that from time to time, famous musicians are locals — making these icons more likely to play an intimate venue, either to work on some new material or to enjoy a jam session with some musician friends (or both).

Such is the case with Roots drummer and session percussionist extraordinaire ?uestlove, perhaps the  most sought-after drummer in modern hip-hop. He will be playing the cozy stage at The Blockley with Austin Texas' acclaimed blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr., who was mentored as a youth by Jimmie Vaughan Jr. (older brother of the legendary Stevie Ray). Also performing is rapper Vice Verse's hip-hop fusion outfit Abstract Verses as well as Hackensack, N.J. rappers LTC and Levittown's Mike Voss.

Wed., Aug. 3, 9 p.m., $8-$12, The Blockley, 38th and Chestnut streets, 215-222-1234, ticketfly.com.
