SHOWDOWN: Live music in Philly from May 7-13

Thursday: Who says Canadians can’t do alt-country? Well, I’m not quite sure who, but I do know that Canadian ensemble The Wooden Sky (pictured) does the genre justice with their new album, Every Child a Daughter Every Moon a Sun, which sounds a little like a sonic and atmospheric spin through wide open plains. 8 p.m., $8, Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 215-291-4919. ➤ From the same ilk as alt-rock bands like My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses comes the Athens, Ga., outfit Dead Confederate, whose sound draws evident inspiration from '90s artists such as JMascis and Sonic Youth. They possess big, thunderous indie guitar riffs and the ability to put on a really entertaining live show. 9 p.m., $10-$12, MilkBoy Philly, 1100 Chestnut St., 215-925-6455.
