To help find the devil in the details, we’ve asked City Paper’s critics, friends and family to name some of their favorite songs — be they secret gems on terrible albums, sleeper tracks you missed, huge pop songs that need defending, or just plain good songs everybody already knows and loves.

Beyoncé’s “Love On Top” has a finger-snapping, upbeat groove akin to something you’d hear on Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall. If you’re having a gloomy day, switch on this bad boy and I guarantee the sun’ll pop out and you’ll get the urge to skip.
