THE GREAT INDOORS: Our favorite design boutiques in Chestnut Hill

✚ Host

What it is: Like its sister store in Old City, this branch functions as a local alternative to Crate and Barrel. The showroom-style shop offers a variety of furnishing pieces in a candy-store of fabrics. Most items in stock have a contemporary but classic feel, not unlike the big CB. The lighting choices follow suit with modern lines in clean, classic colors and materials.

What to look for: Upholstery. Whether you’re looking for a new sofa or a unique arm chair to balance out the family room, Host’s line of sitting options is incredible. You won’t find Ikea pricing here, but the wide array of sizes, shapes, layouts and fabrics means there’s bound to be a hand-chosen piece worth the investment. 7908 Germantown Ave., 215-967-1196, hostinteriors.com.
