THE SHOWDOWN: Freaking out with guitars

POSTED: Monday, March 12, 2012, 1:00 PM

Thursday: Like jeans and a white T-shirt, you can’t go wrong with Brooklyn-based punk rockers Obits, (pictured) who are relentlessly up-tempo and crafty with tight guitar riffs. They play like a ’66 GTO ripping down the highway. 9:15 p.m., $12, Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 215-739-9684. ➤ There’s always something special about a group, or in this case a duo, that are also family relatives. Phone Home is a brother-duo from New York that makes instrumental, progressive rock jams that predominantly feature keyboards and drums. They’re out supporting their second release, Songs For Real Life Games Phone Home. 9 p.m., $8, The M Room, 15 W. Girard Ave., 215-739-5577.
