THE SHOWDOWN: Freaking out with guitars

POSTED: Monday, March 12, 2012, 1:00 PM

Friday: They’ve been an unbelievable Swedish band for ten years and finally they are touring our continent and converting North Americans into lovers of Truckfighters (pictured). The European fuzz/hard-rock band was endorsed by Josh Homme in 2011’s Fuzzomentary, in which he claims they are “the best band that’s ever existed.” Call venue after 4 p.m. for show info, The Station Bar and Grill, 1550 McKean St., 215-467-1871. ➤ Last year Hank 3 released three albums (Ghost to a Ghost/Gutter Town, Cattle Callin’, Hank 3's Attention Deficit Domination) and finally parted ways with Curb Records, a label he never connected with. This year he is back on the road with his rebellious, genre-hopping live show in which he’ll play his twangy country material and his metal and punk tunes. 9 p.m., $18, The Trocadero, 1003 Arch St., 215-922-6888. ➤ It’s funny when a band finds more success after they split up. Dearmond Edison consisted of Justin Vernon, who’s obviously found a heap of success with Bon Iver, and the trio that is Megafaun — Joe Westerlund and brothers Brad and Phil Cook. They are a rootsy ensemble greatly influenced by The Band and Grateful Dead. Late last year they released their fourth album, Megafaun, on which there are folky three-part harmonies and banjo as well as distorted rock material. 8 p.m., $12, Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 215-739-9684.
