THE SHOWDOWN: Freaking out with guitars

POSTED: Monday, March 12, 2012, 1:00 PM

Saturday: From the land of Starbucks comes The Head and The Heart (pictured), a folksy, harmony-laden, indie ensemble. With the breakout success of their first album, Sounds Like Halleluja, re-released on Sub Pop Records, the band is still ascending in popularity. 8:30 p.m., $18, Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 215-232-2100. ➤ The alt-country band Elliott Brood’s latest LP, Days Into Years, is a westbound steam-engine foot-stomper. The trio features folk stylings and Brood’s groaning-but-relaxing vocals. 9 p.m., $10, The North Star Bar, 2639 Poplar St., 215-787-0488.
