THE SHOWDOWN: Knowing when to strip it down and fill it out

POSTED: Monday, March 5, 2012, 1:00 PM

Friday: After announcing that their third record, I Love You, It’s Cool, would be released April 3, Bear In Heaven (pictured) streamed it on the Internet way early. The catch with that is that the album plays 4,000 times slower than normal, which the band figured out would be the exact amount of time between the announcement of the album and its release. Well played. 9 p.m., $10, Voyeur Nightclub, 1221 Saint James St., 215-735-5772. ➤ The Matthew Shipp Trio is led by pianist and master of improvisation Matthew Shipp, who in the Jazz world is held in the same regard as legendary saxophonist, John Coltrane. 8 p.m., $15, Philadelphia Art Alliance, 251 S. 18th St., 215-545-4302.
