THE SHOWDOWN: Live music in Philly from March 19-25

POSTED: Monday, March 19, 2012, 2:00 PM

Wednesday: With a husky and sultry voice, Grace Woodroofe sings tragic folk ballads and sexy, Janis Joplin-meets-Jack-White, hard-rock jams on Always Want, her debut album released in January. 9 p.m., $10, The North Star Bar, 2639 Poplar St., 215-787-0488. ➤ Finding early success with the band Radish and his first solo album, Sha Sha, Ben Kweller (pictured) is a veritable veteran rock artist at the age of 30. Fast forward to his new album, Go Fly a Kite, and you’ll hear a more mature style of rock that is a little bit country and a little bit rock ’n’ roll, with slide guitar and a honky-tonk feel. 8:30 p.m., $20-$22, Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 215-232-2100.
