THE SHOWDOWN: Live music in Philly from March 19-25

Friday: Vancouver’s Said The Whale (pictured) is a full-sounding rock band on their third album, Little Mountain, released earlier this month. They weave three- sometimes four-part harmonies with guitar and piano melodies and jangly electric guitar, which all together sounds super slick and polished. 9 p.m., $8, The M Room, 15 W. Girard St., 215-739-5577. ➤ A siren whose style is described as “soul-afrobeat-folk-world,”Yemi Akanbi has an angelic voice that’ll soar in a space like the Art Sanctuary. In addition to her rich, vocal tone and remarkable control, she is also a talented lyricist. 7 p.m., $10, Art Sanctuary, 628 S. 16th St, 215-232-4485.
