THE SHOWDOWN: Live music in Philly from May 21-27

Thursday: DJ EBG III has gained a reputation for consistently kicking out the best of glam, punk and rock 'n' roll jams — all vinyl, all night, every other Thursday for Guitar Army. This week, sign up for free and you could end up leaving with a black Epiphone guitar courtesy of Jack Daniels. 9 p.m., FREE, Barbarella (Upstairs at The Barbary), 951 Frankford Ave., facebook.com/thebarbary. ➤ Canadian harmonizing, finger-picking, acoustic chick duo Madison Violet are sure to make the hairs on your arms stand on end. Although they haven’t had much in the way of mainstream success, they won the singer-songwriter category in last year’s Independent Music Awards for their song “The Ransom.” 8 p.m., $7, World Café Live, 3025 Walnut St., 215-222-1400.
