THE SHOWDOWN: Very good and very under-the-radar

THURSDAY: The fun, not-so-serious indie-rock band Girls (pictured) will be in the area with King Krule to promote their latest album, which seemed to be on every music-media outlet’s top ten list last year. $20, 9 p.m., Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 215-232-2100. ➤ See the young indie band, Cult of Youth, who are a little more on the Epic/Arcade Fire side of the indie-rock spectrum. 8:30 p.m., $8, The Level Room, 2102 Market St., 215-920-2070. ➤ Want a local flavor of soul-funk? Check out the Dirk Quinn Band, who always put on a high-energy show. 8 p.m., $12-$20, World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St., 215-222-1400.
