Saturday: Trained in American jazz and classical music of Iraq, trumpeter Amir ElSaffar traveled to Baghdad to learn Maqam, a style of Middle-Eastern singing that dates back centuries. Elsaffar combined Maqam with jazz to create an interestingly new form of international jazz. 8 p.m., $15, Philadelphia Art Alliance, 251 S. 18th St., 215-545-4302. ➤ With their sophomore release, Tamer Animals, which is orchestral, indie and Radiohead-like, Other Lives (pictured), led by Jesse Tabish, is still under the radar, unfortunately. 8 p.m., $12, Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 215-291-4919. ➤ K. Flay is a female rap artist From the Midwest with a new EP, Eyes Shut, and an impressive style that relies on her introspective lyrics and clever flow. 9 p.m., $15, North Star Bar, 2639 Poplar St., 215-787-0488. ➤ The Philadelphia Ceili Group is hosting an event that explains how Uillaen Bagpipe was saved by the West of Ireland. Following a lecture, there will be a concert featuring piper Ivan Goff and guitarist/singer Eamon O’Leary. 3:30 p.m., Commodore Barry Club, 6815 Emlen St., 215-843-8051.
