SHOWDOWN: Live music in Philly from April 30-May 6

POSTED: Monday, April 30, 2012, 1:00 PM

Wednesday: Better known in her native Sweden than here in the U.S., Ane Brun (pictured) is a folk/pop artist known for being a reliably talented singer-songwriter who doesn’t bowl you over with any type of absurd quality. But she is easy to listen to with a stand-out track here and there. On Brun’s fifth album, Do You Remember, spare instrumentation is employed with her sweet and honest vocals, which puts it in the realm of folk/pop or, at times, adult contemporary. 8:30 p.m., $13-$15 Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 215-232-2100. ➤ San Diego surf-rockers Mrs. Magician come complete with edgy distortion, waving vibrato, relentlessly surging rhythms and close vocal harmonies that harken back to the classic surfbeat sound of the Beach Boys, but with a little bit of punk attitude. 7 p.m., $8-$10, The Barbary Saloon, 951 Frankford Ave.
