SHOWDOWN: Live music in Philly from April 30-May 6

POSTED: Monday, April 30, 2012, 1:00 PM

Saturday: Philadelphia’s premier LGBTQ and ally mixed-voice chorus, Philadelphia Voices of Pride Cabaret, will perform Songs from the Movies, which includes “Singing in the Rain,” “The Way We Were,” “Footloose,” and “Welcome to Burlesque.8 p.m., $25 William Way Center ballroom, 1315 Spruce St., 215-732-2220. ➤ Praised by fellow Scottish band Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks (pictured) sports a similar style of heart-on-sleeve indie rock. But there’s is a little more progginess to it. On their latest full-length, In the Pit of the Stomach, WWPJ charges through fast-burning, guitar-centric jams that feature lead singer Adam Thomson’s forceful vocals. 8:30 p.m., $15, Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 215-232-2100.
