TONIGHT: Chip Chantry records his first comedy album @ Helium Comedy Club

Philly's own Chip Chantry is recording his first standup comedy album and needs you to add the background laughter. I won't get into the details, but when chuckles have to be added in post-production, it's bad for a comedian's Paxil co-pay.

This is the CD Chip will take with him when he visits out-of-town comedy clubs, so we need to make him sound like a precious commodity rather than someone we can see for free nearly any day of the week. There's only one way to achieve this: hundreds of audience members laughing uncontrollably at his set tonight.

"My good friends Pat House and Amir Gollan are on the show tonight, and Jim Grammond is also hopping up on stage with me at one point to do something special," says Chantry. "So it's my ultimate goal to have fun tonight, and hopefully is doesn't go down in flames. The worst case scenario is that I don't like the recording, and I scrap it. Actually, I guess there are worse cases than that — the roof could cave in, there could be a fire. Or the crowd turns on me, rushes the stage, and won't leave without my head on a pole. Wow. I'm not sure I want to go through with this now ..."

I won't be over-dramatic and say his career is on the line ... But I will WRITE it!

Tonight, 8 p.m., $5, Helium Comedy Club, 2031 Sansom St., 215-496-9001, heliumcomedyclub.com/philadelphia.
