TOPMOD: The big reveal

America's Next Top Model, Brittani (THE CW)

This is it, gang. Either Brittani or Molly will be this season’s ANTM princess. But first, it’s shiny dimple Cover Girl commercial time, and both girls are more complex than some pollyanna Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farms: It turns out Molly kicked a drug addiction through rehab, and Brittani lived on welfare as a kid because of her single mom’s anxiety disorder.

After interviews with IMG VP Ivan Bart, the girls did their takes for Cover Girl Lip Perfection with Mr. Jay. Molly had trouble being the sunny girlfriend character, while Brittani delivered a friendly performance after an initial nervous take.

The photo shoot was very different from cycles past. Cover Girl is going edgy, so instead of smizing at some imaginary person above left, both girls stared icily into the lens. Next was their Beauty In Vogue shoot with photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari. Pierpaolo and a Vogue Italia stylist thought Brittani was very professional, while Molly was pissy about the cold, and they said she lacked energy.

After the shoot, Molly was surprised by her parents at Dar Doukkala. She was overjoyed, but Brittani’s mom couldn’t be there because of her anxiety and recent back surgery. She was a little blue, but got to video chat with her.

Brittani and Molly had their final ANTM runway test in Vivienne Westwood’s "Anglomania" show. Contestants Kasia, Alex, Hannah and Cycle 15 winner Ann were brought back for the show, as well. Dolled up in pink and orange shadow and Foxy Brown ‘fros, the ladies hit the catwalk, starting with Ann Ward. Molly and Brittani posed together at the end, and on the way off Brittani slipped on a rose petal and had a messy, hit-the-wall, sprain-your-ankle fall-the-hell-down. She burst into tears backstage, but pulled herself together and smiled through the show finale.

Ivan Bart thought the women runners-up should be made over for their last panel, so they showed up in flattering retro pixie cuts. Andre Leon Talley thought Brittani had an “urban walk” as if she was jetting on the street. The judges, joined by Mr. Jay, disliked her laughing when posing with Molly, though. They were split on whether Molly’s walk was shaky or unique.

Evaluating the Cover Girl ads, the panel liked Brittani’s commercial, but thought Molly came off mean. During deliberations, the judges reviewed the model’s stunning portfolios. Both have been doing amazing work. Brittani is “more romantic” while Molly has a hard edge.

And the winner is … Brittaniiiiiiiii! Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I was surprised. I thought Molly had stronger photos, was less delicate and able to deal with industry better. Brittani certainly could use the opportunity more, though. And she has a more cheery and bubbly disposition. Thinking back to the beginning, I would’ve been surprised Molly made it this far, but Brittani was one of my favorite picks, so I guess I’m psychic. I can’t wait for next season. Somehow this show hasn’t gotten old.
