Mistaken Identity

The First Person Arts Story Slam has become a must-see for anyone interested in the storytelling tradition and its continuation within today's literary community. While the slam typically alternates between its two homes at South Philly's L'Etage and U City's World Cafe Live respectively, they're taking over the public library tonight to join in the festivities of Philadelphia Book Festival. In preparation for the May 19th Grand Slam, tonight's edition will feature storytellers from Detroit as they compete against our Philly competitors for a head-to-head contest that's sure to keep everyone on the very top of their verbal game. Think all the creativity of a poetry reading but with the hype of the NHL Stanley Cup. Celebrating four years of City vs City Slamming, tonight's competitors will be tackling the theme of Mistaken Identity.

7:30 p.m., $15, FLP Central Branch, 1901 Vine St., firstpersonarts.org/storyslam
