Boy of Bone

Philadelphia's famous Mütter Museum is a place to see some pretty weird stuff, most notably Grover Cleveland's secret tumor, numerous human horns, and a giant colon that resembles a monster worm. These medical oddities often leave visitors in awe at the possibilities of the human body, and possibly with newfound fears of bizarre diseases. For one visitor, author K.R. Sands, the museum's exhibits were enough to inspire an entire collection of short stories. Titled Boy of Bone: Twelve Stories Inspired by the Mütter Museum, the tales range from a Philly boy whose muscles slowly turn to bone, to a 19th century Parisian seamstress with horns growing on her face and hands. Artist Jon Lezinsky enhances the vivid descriptions of these tormented protagonists with original digital collages that will be on sale at tonight's event. Throw out your plans for a boring Wednesday and embark on a journey to the creepiest ends of the human imagination as inspired by real human bodies.

6:30 p.m., free, College of Physicians of Philadelphia, 19 S. 22nd St., collphyphil.org
