Peep these watercolor, pen and ink pieces from Michele Melcher's new exhibit, "Stomping Grounds," which goes up at Proximity Gallery (2434 E. Dauphin St., 267-825-2949) on September 4. They all depict Philly bars and eateries ' Johnny Brenda's (pictured), Monk's, Pat's Steaks, Eulogy, Standard Tap ' and most have a distinct seasonal feel. (This one, for example, with all its oranges and reds, gets me excited for autumn nights.) Proximity owner Janel Frey tells Critical Mass that original pieces will go for $150-$650, and prints may be available for cheaper. If not, Melcher's got a bunch available on her Etsy site ' for as little as $40. Click for more of Melcher's favorite dives.

Michele's work is Awesome and at a great gallery. Proximity is a super place to for art lovers. They always have great stuff and at reasonable prices. Fishtown is becoming the new old city. The artwork there is really impressive. A must see.

Although a Floridian, I've made regular trips to Philly for the past 18 years and had a chance to visit some of these "Stomping Grounds". Michele's work gives these big city hangouts some "down home" appeal. I also notice what appears to be an old Mercury appearing in several of the pieces, an interesting touch. One of these would make a much better souvenir than a keychain, or the Pat's cheesesteak preserved in my freezer! Can't make the show, but I may pick up a print on her website!

Michele's work is fantastic and Proximity gallery is a great place to see a show. They always have really talented artists at friendly prices. Fishtown is really becoming the new Old City. The qualty of the artists can't be compared.

Love these images. Makes me want to throw back a pint at JB's or have a chicken pot pie at the standard!
