CONCERT REVIEW: George Clinton @ Keswick Theater, 2/19

The scene at Keswick Village is usually a relatively low key one, with little shops dotting the streets of quiet Glenside. But that was oustide. Inside the Keswick Theater was something a little more ... otherworldly. George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic don't just attract attention, they demand it. With no openers it was Funkadelic all night long. The vibe from a George Clinton show is definitely one of familial love, making them seem like a cosmic Partridge family. So much of the Funkadelic crew have been playing with each other for the better part of four decades, and it shows. It was evident in the crowd: at times I saw just as many hands in the air as I did canes (seriously). Not only do they still love what they do, they seem to also love each other. I couldn't help but wonder where their energy comes from. They put 100 percent into songs like "We Want the Funk," "Atomic Dog,"  and "Flashlight."  Given their presentation and all their wacky outfits, I wouldn't count out the possibility of strange funky sorcery.  George Clinton and P-Funk permeate the very energy they embody in their shows: a familial vibe at a party that doesn't end, but travels around like a funky family circus.
