Edgar Allan Poe short wins Mid-Atlantic Emmy

It's nearly October, so you know what's coming: a whole lot of Edgar Allan Poe-is-ours-damnit bravado. In keeping with that spirit, take a look at this WHHY short on how Philly inspired some of Poe's best works. (And remember, that little fact is the basis of our argument that Poe belongs here ' so stick to it when your friends from Baltimore try to press this issue. He only died there! Big whoop!) Also, congrats to executive producer Trudi Brown and everyone else involved in this video; it recently won a 2009 Mid-Atlantic Emmy under the Historic/Cultural Features category.

Actually, I enjoyed the film. Not bad for being produced in Philadelphia. I understand that Philly had such a grand time promoting Poe last Halloween with Elvira Queen of the Cleavage that the city is seriously considering bringing the Hooter girls to the Poe House. Yup, real class.

You know what? Due to the huge success that our events in Baltimore achieved I decided to extend the Poe Bicentennial into 2010! Yup, Philadelphia has already moved on, Boston is now saying "Poe who?" but Baltimore keeps plugging for Poe just like it has since 1875.

So if you want to continue to cry that Poe belongs to Philly you have my permission to do so. But the sob story is wearing thin.
