➤ Condolences to the family of
Bradley Cooper on the loss of his father, Charlie Cooper, a renowned Merrill Lynch stockbroker. Many of my contemporaries ripped Cooper for not attending this weekend's
Golden Globes. Instead he, his lady friend
Ms. Zellweger and his mother were tending to real life this tragedy, a fire at the Cooper home. According to sources at the
Greater Philadelphia Film Office, this will not affect today and Friday's
Limitless shoots in Philly with
Robert DeNiro.
➤
Schoolly D shot
his video for
"West Phillly" (his next track with
Tone Trump and
Chill Moody) throughout his old neighborhood. The location for the first verse is 56th and Lansdowne; the second, 54th and Market; and the last, truly home turf at 52nd and Parkside.
➤ In
Icepack print, I interviewed
Temple journalism teacher-turned-publisher
George Miller about
Jump mag, due by March. Now
The Onion is looking to publish
here, too. Hey-o. The funny rag already has outlets in D.C., New York and beyond (just like the
Real Housewives series!) so why not Philly? No sooner than that
Onion news bloomed came
Dan Gross' question as to whether
The Onion Philly would be printed in Conshy by
Philadelphia Media Network, owner of
Philly.com,
Daily News and
The Inquirer, with partnership amongst them to follow. Hmm. That
IFC is launching the
Onion News Network this weekend has nothing to do with these announcements. Honk.
➤
World Café Live's new website went live (via
Ice Cube) the other day, along with scheduling links to its due-April 1 opening of
WCL at the Queen in Wilmington, Del. Asked for comment, WCL boss
Hal Real wrote me to say that his missus, Annie, and he were currently off on "a fantastic voyage to other worlds" Egypt, Jordan and Israel. "I can't wait to show you Her Majesty when we return." Is Real taking me to the Royal Wedding? Man, I hope so.

➤ So the Duck and Chicken Liver Parfait is to die for, the luscious bank holiday roast is something you can bank on and there'll even be something educational afoot once its
Speaker's Corner starts in February (on the first of the month with
Ideas in Food authors/bloggers
H. Alexander Talbot and
Aki Kamozawa, whom
I interviewed in CP for their hot ice cream and other molecular gastronomical inventions). But there's another secret weapon at
The Dandelion other than the burnished woods and its Rule Britainia exec chef
Robert Aikens. That'd be British Isle-r sous chef
Liam Gelghegen, an import from the
Jose Garces brand. Hello. Meanwhile, Garces takes that loss with a dose of the drink. Or at least a collabo, at
Chifa tonight (Jan. 20) with
Garrett Oliver of
Brooklyn Brewery for a six-course
Craft Beer Dinner. Each Chifa course has a chocolate component, yo.

WHOWHATWHERE: "I just had a religious experience," shouted one audience member at the surprise cute-boy
Cage the Elephant showcase at 104.5 FM studios (the
Xfinity Performance Space oooh) the other day. Kids. If it wasn't bad enough that you missed
Nerdnite Philadelphia's bash at the
Field House, you may have also missed the launch of the locally produced video game
Hipster City Cycle at
National Mechanics. Look for both the Nerds and the Video Cyclists to have return bouts. ...
Jersey Shore's
Paulie D not only showed up at the
Roxxy the other night. He showed up early – 9 p.m. ... Comedian/radio host/author
Steve Harvey signed copies of
Straight Talk No Chaser at
Borders Books (God, this store can't close) and at
WDAS. The mustache is much too big for his face anymore. Much too. ... Our friend
Ericka Schiff vocalist/realtor performed at the opening and closing ceremonies at this week's
Miss America pageant. Yay her.
