Sparks and crystal meth-keepin' the midwest jumpin'!

Text messages I got from Jesse while he was in Chicago:

Here comes the rain. Appropriate for pains of being whatever. Cools the fucked up pit sweat. Ahhhh!

No sparks ban in chi town! Fire it up!

Just walked into the press tent like i own the place. No credentials, but now i have free swag and water. Attitude is every

Sugarcube.

Plan at least 30 min in advance for portojohn time.

Frightened rabbit has arrived. They rock a festival and the kids dance. Jam band status not far off.

Super sun pick-up! It got hot. Blitzen trapper now.

A thermals blanket of 90s covers by green day, nirvana, and sonic youth!

If your band's name is grizzly bear, you should be ferocious and scary, not pretty, melodic, and dull. Misnomer! Yawn.

P4k 09's drawing to a close. Wow. Waitin' 4 tha Lips. Energy high bout to explode! FLips set is all request! Does democracy

'fuck the robots!' the battle cry for yoshimi.

Wayne's ridin' a gorilla.

Do you realize that p4k 09 is over? Stick a fork in it.

Tortoise comes out of its shell. Pitchfork 09 is officially underway!
Before the storm that is yo la tengo!
Pitchin' for M.J.--Do it for the kids!
The sun shines and so does Yo La Tengo!
Jesus Lizard = Insane! No picture would do this performance justice.
Just jump in the fray and enjoy the madness!

This is exactly how I remember the Built to Spill set: lots of vibrant, blurry colors of joyful rock goodness!

"I yelled myself hoarse and clapped till my hands were red and sore, but there was no joy in the Windy City, Built to Spill had snuck out (without an encore). And when the concert organizers said, 'Please go quietly,' the city of Chicago complied like the pigs that made this town famous."

why the fuck is there an article about a music festival that happened HUNDREDS OF MILES AWAY FROM PHILLY?! i don't see why you have to go to chicago while there is a thriving independent music and arts community here...in Philadelphia...the city you're supposed to be covering...and why does it only consist of shitty cell phone pictures and text messages? alright, im gunna go to pitchfork's site now and watch the videos from the show in the comfort of my office with minimal stinky hipsters around me. and without your fucking two-bit text message commentary. good day.

Tom, I'm getting a real Jeannie Bueller vibe from you right now.

Welcome to reporting in the Twitter age. Pretty funny though.

To clarify a misconception here and defend Jesse Delaney's good name: Mr. Delaney was not on assignment to report or write a review. These are merely texts and photos he sent while at Pitchfork completely of his own volition (and on his own dime). He sent them for the enjoyment of those who received them and likely without expectation that they would be formatted and be presented to the reportage police who apparently inhabit this site.

Well said and much appreciated, Brian. Jesse is a music mad man and we that know him appreciate his enthusiasm and willingness to share his experiences with other music lovers. Apparently certain people posting here are only understand what is right here, right now and are completely unaware and indifferent to what is going on elsewhere in the music world--and have no sense of humor. Jesse is a very dedicated Philadelphia music lover, concert-goer, and reporter. In fact, very few people I know are as passionate about local music as JD.
