JUST DO IT: The Ex-PN DJs party to celebrate YRock

We were totally bummed last month when we heard WXPN was forced to cut the airtime of Y-Rock, one of the few remaining bastions of former radio giant Y100 (you can still catch the last gasps at yrockonxpn.org or on XPN's HD channel). The former YRock DJs (or Ex-PNers) are throwing a party tonight at the Balcony to celebrate all of their hard work. And it's free! Former volunteer DJ Heather says it thusly (bolds ours):
Here's a short version of the backstory: Due to financial difficulties WXPN laid off 7 employees last month, one of them being Josh T. Landow, the Co-Founder of/Operations Director for YRock on XPN. The YRock DJs are volunteers (meaning, not paid) and were all asked to stay but many of us decided to leave out of solidarity. Josh and Jim McGuinn started started Y100 Rocks in February 2005, and many of the DJs have worked with Josh since the summer of 2005. We did not want to continue at YRock without Josh's direction so we left too. Within the last week the ex-DJs decided to have a party with our listeners to celebrate all that we have accomplished since 2005 with Y100 Rocks and YRock.
In addition to cheer and good tidings, three local bands will take the stage: The Swimmers (8 p.m.), Pattern is Movement (9 p.m.) and GANG (10 p.m.). Go and give the erstwhile YRockers a pat on the back for trying to keep the dream alive. And let Y100 forever live on the part of your heart reserved for nostalgia and mix tapes.
Tue., July 13, 6-11 p.m., free (cash bar), The Balcony, 1003 Arch St.
