ON THE FRINGE: Cédric Andrieux

POSTED: Wednesday, September 15, 2010, 6:44 PM
Every night, we're hitting the Live Arts/Fringe fest like a pack of culture-hungry wolves. Every morning, we're howling about it at citypaper.net/fringe. WE SAW IT LAST NIGHT >>Cédric Andrieux
An intriguing mix of introspection and deadpan humor, this autobiographical performance gives you plenty to ponder. In a droll soft-spoken monologue, with occasional cutaways to dance solos, Cédric Andrieux recounts the what and whys of his life as a dancer — beginning with an affection for the movie Fame and later including an eight-year stint with Merce Cunningham plus a gig with Lyon Opera Ballet. While talking about unitards, dance belts and pushing himself to the physical limit, Andrieux at times finds himself ambivalent and anguished about an artform he is nevertheless intractably drawn to. —Deni Kasrel
