Rogue Wave drummer couples rock star lifestyle with a debilitating illness in D Tour

The rock star lifestyle is not a healthy one ' despite Keith Richards' inexplicable alive and kicking status. Long tours with minuscule per diems mean days on end in cramped vans with little to eat but the cheapest of the cheap. It's a notion that can't be romanticized when one of your kidneys is failing. Such is the story of Rogue Wave member Pat Spurgeon who spent his life pursuing music, a dream derailed when his kidney went kaput. While touring with the band (and undergoing dialysis), he searched for a live donor who could save his life. Spurgeon chronicled his search in D Tour, which won the Best Music Doc award at this year's Philadelphia Independent Film Festival and screens today as part of the Community Cinema screening series. Check out the trailer below (big ups to the Mazarin t-shirts!): Gift of Life, a donor program, will be on site to sign up potential donors and Spurgeon himself will join in for a post-screening Q&A via Skype.

Wed., Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m., free, College of Physicians of Philadelphia, 19 S. 22nd St., Reserve seats here or call 215-351-0511.
