The Showdown: Fuzzy, spaced-out

Monday: Lee Jae Won plays sludgy metal with spacey elements. Their layers of guitar noise can elicit memories of Slint's Spiderland but their aggression is more reminiscent of Providence noise-rockers Lightning Bolt. With Mumpsy and Music for Headphones, at the North Star Bar, 7 p.m., $8, 21+, 2639 Poplar St.

Tuesday: Spindrift has roots in the same '60s psychedelic' that spawned groups like the Brian Jonestown Massacre in the '90s. They have a peculiar lo-fi Sound featuring fuzzy, spaced-out guitars and organ drones. With Sounds of Kaleidoscope and The Chimeras, at Johnny Brendas, 21+, 8 p.m., $10, Frankford & Girard aves.

Wednesday: Brooklyn's Vivian Girls play charming garage rock complete with punky guitar riffs, sugary background vocals and jangly washes of noise. With The Beets and Band Name, at the Barbary, 6:30 p.m., $10, Frankford & Delaware aves.

Thursday: Canadian indie rockers Mother Mother play driving post-punk with pop hooks similar to The New Pornographers. With The New Motels and Glass Empire, at the North Star Bar, 8 p.m., $10, 2639 Poplar St.

Friday: Tropical electronic sounds fuzzing away amongst casio beats, house breakdowns, and highly modified vocals define Lemonade. With Cale Parks, At KungFu Necktie, $5, 21+, 8 p.m., Front & Thompson sts., r5productions.com.

Saturday: The Flaming Lips have been playing their quirky upbeat rock for over 20 years. Their live shows are infamous for crazy antics and props, sometimes including a 15 foot bubble that frontman Wayne Coyne climbs into and walks over the audience with mid-set. At the Festival Pier, 7 p.m., $43.50, Penn's Landing, 301 S. Columbus Blvd.

Sunday
: Pop sensation Britney Spears will grace the city of brotherly love with her talents for an evening of love, lust and womanizing. At the Wachovia Center, 7 p.m., $39.50-$49, 3601 S. Broad St.
