Alvin Ailey Dance Theater

ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER The acclaimed African-American dance troupe tells the story of the African-American experience through movement and dance set to traditional slave songs, gospel music and the blues. Runs through Feb. 27, $26-$72, Academy of Music, 1420 Locust St., 215-893-1935.

BLIND DATE: PART 1 With dancers performing with musicians they've never collaborated with before, its a blind date of dance and music. I wonder if they're gonna get it on later? Sun., Feb. 27, 7:30-8:30 p.m., $13-$15, Christ Church, 20 N. American St., 215-922-1695.

EAST COAST INVITATIONAL HIP-HOP DANCE COMPETITION Whip out the boom boxes for this competition that features the hottest college dance crews on the East Coast. There'll be pops, locks and drops, homeboizzzz. Fri., Feb. 25, 7-10 p.m., $10-$15, Lincoln University, 1570 Baltimore Pk, Lincoln University.

KORESH ARTIST SHOWCASE The Koresh Artist Showcase covers all styles. Whether you like ballet, hip-hop, or ballroom, there's something here for every dance lover. Sat., Feb. 26, 7 p.m., $10, Koresh Dance Company, 2020 Chestnut St., 215-751-0959.

NORA GIBSON PERFORMANCE PROJECT AND OLIVE PRINCE DANCE IN CONCERT The two companies perform for an invitation-only audience. To request said invitation, contact Nora Gibson at norasgibson@gmail.com. There will be a reception following the show. Sat., Feb. 26, 8-10 p.m., $15, CEC Meetinghouse Theatre, 3500 Lancaster Ave.

TEMPLE UNIVERSITY DANCE FACULTY CONCERT A showcase of the best dancers Temple has to offer, featuring performances by Philip Grosser, Luke Kahlich, Merian Soto, and Kariamu Welsh. With special guest Gregory King and a classical ballet staged by Laura Katz-Rizzo. Runs through Feb. 26, $5-$20, Conwell Dance Theater, 1801 N. Broad St., 215-204-8307.
