If you haven't been to one of the Peoplehood Pageants thrown by Spiral Q Puppet Theater, picture the few decent scenes in Across the Universe ' the ones with the funny-looking puppets ' and you've got a good idea of its atmosphere. Like those made by Bread & Puppet Theater (the 46-year-old clan that's responsible for the aforementioned film's puppets), Spiral Q's are inspired by folk art, humorously distorted, and often convey political ideas. Spiral Q organizers are looking for people who want to determine the message behind this year's Pageant, which will kick off at 2 p.m. on Oct. 17 at Clark Park. Come out to tonight's meeting if you've got something to say ' via puppet.

Mon., Aug. 24, 6-8 p.m., Spiral Q, 3114 Spring Garden St., second floor, 215-222-6979, spiralq.org.
