Philadelphians came out in droves for the annual party on the parkway yesterday. The celebration was the culmination of ten days of Welcome America concerts and events. There was sweat, there was music, there was fun, and there was more sweat. We took some photos.

Yesterday University City unveiled The Dirt Factory, its new trash-to-treasure composting facility that will convert organic neighborhood waste into compost with the help of fallen leaves, worms and a high-capacity Earth Tub system. The facility will be open for drop-off every Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m., and UCD and the Pedal Co-op will also provide collection services for bagged leaves, wood chips and other organic material. The Factory held a party for its grand opening, filling the air with bluegrass music and the scents of locally sponsored refreshments, and we took some photos.

Rashad Corey Productions brought glitz and glamour to Old City Friday with Stomp the Runway. This benefit for Women Against Abuse showcased fashions from a variety of Philly designers and served as a fitting tribute to late runway model Vanessa “Ms. Banks” Watson, who was murdered by her boyfriend in February. Here’s a peek at the head-turning style and attire that was on display.

Saturday, the Norris Square Neighborhood Project (NSNP) held its annual Festival de Bambulaé, a Puerto Rican celebration and fundraiser in the community's vibrant garden space. NSNP supports local Latino youth through areas such as the arts and community involvment. The neighborhood's inspirational effort permeated all aspects of the event, from the paper flowers to the pork roast to the homegrown mint in the mojitos.

The Porch at 30th Street Station continues to use their $120,000 of Knight grant money (!) to attempt to draw people to hang out in a place that's traditionally the realm of travelers, cars angrily trying to get onto 76 and honking Bolt Buses. The latest effort: a pop-up beer garden July 12-14 and free mini-golf for the month of July. They have a pretty entertainingly thorough list of rules already up, apparently in anticipation of a horde of mini-golf loving barbarians. These include:

All participants must use the club and ball provided.

Don't push your way through the course. Please be patient and wait your turn.

No whacking balls.

Mini-golf is a family game, so players should refrain from using foul language.

Anyone who does not follow the rules posted about will be made to leave the course.

Knowing Philly, it's not like their apparent expectations are out of line, but it's still kind of funny. (And who brings their own ball and club to mini-golf?)

Here's a vid from this week's Lunctime Concert Series, a free show in Center City that happens once a week at noon through August 29 (see complete schedule here). This time around, rockabilly outfit Gas Money performed at 1500 Centre Square on Market St. While most attendees were on their lunch break, I talked to quite a few who were straight-up ditching work to enjoy the beautiful day and catch some live tunes.

Every Wednesday, Chris Brown digs into our listings bin and pulls out a little something something to do every day of the week. This week? Bloomsday puppets, Dark Sisters and a make-your-own-Father's-Day-card sesh.

As the Rosenbach's annual Bloomsday festivities descend upon us, reacquaint (or perhaps introduce) yourself to Joyce's seminal classic with "Go Ulysses!". This performance by award-winning outfit Drama of Works features a band of puppets who know the story by heart. Wed., June 13, 6 p.m., $10, Rosenbach Museum & Library, 2008-2010 Delancey Place, 215-732-1600, rosenbach.org.

Only a year after Philly AIDS Thrift (full disclosure: I volunteer there) moved from Bainbridge to a larger Fifth Street home, expansion plans are in the midst again. To help fund the acquisition of over 3,000 more square feet of space in the former Kroungold's building, the store hosted the Summer of Love benefit party at Philadelphia's Magic Gardens last Friday evening.

Volunteers, staffers and customers filled the Garden to socialize, dance to DJ Trans Am's tunes and bid in the silent auction. Prizes included a Mütter Museum gift set, a trip to Hell's Kitchen in New York City, a limited-edition pair of Doc Martens and gift baskets from a variety of local businesses. Dangerous Ponies played through an energizing set of dancey psychedelic songs to finish off the evening. It was lots of fun; even Isaiah Zagar cut a rug (see last photo)!

Every second Friday of the month from May to October, the Squidling Bros. Circus Sideshow hosts its underground party of outlandish performance art featuring an array of local circus, burlesque and musical acts. The show isn't for the faint of heart, but surely worth seeing if you're intrigued by flame tossing hoopers, sword swallowers, masochists and such. I stopped by to scope out the scene and get some pics at this past week's party.
