Night Watch
I’m still posting standout tracks/videos every night at midnight for some reason. (Click here to see them all so far.) Don’t snooze on Philly’s Aaron & the Spell. This song’s got that classic mix of bluesy guitar and passionate soul singing that fits this city like a glove. Clean-cut and gritty at the same time. Want to hear more? You do. Our friends over at The Key did a session with Aaron Brown awhile back.

I got a little bored of my own indie and rock stuff, so I asked movies/web guy Josh Middleton to make a suggestion. He sent me this jazzy Michael Jackson cover. Josh only listens to the classy stuff.

Midtown Dickens is a band of folksy sweethearts in the Be Good Tanyas kind of way, and their 2012 album, Home, is straight-up gorgeous. Video’s pretty nice, too. Better go get the skimmer.

Unless you work at the kind of place that lets you watch violent videos that end in bathroom sex. Then it’s kinda tame. And you work in an interesting place.

This is possibly my favorite rock song of the year. Looove the beginning of the second verse where the music drops out for a little bit.

I’m posting standout tracks/videos every night at midnight for some reason. (Click here to see them all so far.) Young British folk/rock/soul singer Lianne La Havas wooed me with this and all the kooky, pretty songs on her debut, Is Your Love Big Enough? I have a feeling her next album's going to be weird and amazing.

Regina Spektor’s What We Saw From the Cheap Seats didn’t make my top ten this year, but her show at the Tower was pretty amazing. I like the tension in this song, and that ol' odbball Spektor charm.
