Circles NoLibs opens tonight

POSTED: Thursday, June 28, 2012, 11:55 AM

Located on an unassuming corner of Newbold, Circles has been quietly putting out some of the city's most exciting Thai food for sometime now.  Never cloying or dumbed down, there's a real heat and brightness that you just don't find at other Thai joints around town.

Beginning with a tiny storefront take out operation on Tasker and Hicks, Circles expanded last year with a sit down dining area directly across the street and tonight chef Alex Boonphaya and crew are opening a second location in Northern Liberties (812 N. 2nd St.), a BYOB with lots of lovely Thai detail.

The opening menu is identical to the Newbold location, although they are housed in elegantly embroidered Thai silk covers. But there are bigger plans in the works.  Lunch and delivery are coming in the next month or so, a Thai-style brunch is in the works as well as plans to offer a chef's tasting menu and more extensive vegan and vegetarian options.

This uptown outpost of Circles features a cozy dining room with banquettes lined with Thai pillows, servers decked out in traditional garb, and those awesome cheesesteak spring rolls that might not be authentic Bangkok street eats but are pretty out of control.
