More on Fork & Barrel's Center City spot, The Grainery

Matt Scheller, co-owner of Fork & Barrel (4213 Ridge Ave.), just checked in with an update on his team's in-the-works Center City project at 1113 Walnut. There's been chatter that it'll be a brewpub, but Scheller stresses that they will not be using that term to characterize the concept, called The Grainery. Brewer Terry Hawbaker of Williamsport's Bullfrog Brewery, however, will be whipping up very small batches of atypical one-off beers (think sour and wild ales), booze that will take up a total of four of the 24+ taps they're aiming to install. The rest of the drafts will be dedicated to craft products from Europe, in a similar move to how they approach the beer program in East Falls. Scheller's saying The Grainery's menu will be rustic, "consisting of house-cured meats, game dishes, fresh-harvested ingredients and nose-to-tail feasts." Here's the aspect that most excites us (one that Adam Erace teased earlier this month) — Scheller says they're planning a "Victorian-era cocktail program" that will be designed and maintained by New York-based Damon Dyer, beverage consultant, Clover Club/Flatiron Lounge alum and current mixmaster at Louis 649.
