Feb. 9: "Meet The Farmer" discussion panel at Fairmount's Mugshots

POSTED: Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 10:30 PM
Filed Under: Food Events
Join Mugshots Coffeehouse & Cafe (2100 Fairmount Ave.) tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. as they host a "Meet The Farmer" event as a part of their monthly Sustainability Series. Guests will have the opportunity to talk to local Sweet Stem Farm farmer/proprietor Phil Landis and sample appetizers prepared using Sweet Stem products. Following the meet-and-greet session, Mugshots will host a panel featuring Landis, Mugshots co-owner Jill Fink,, Fair Food executive director Ann Karlen and Meredith Montalto, our state representative within the Pew Campaign on Human Health and Industrial Farming. The evening's discussion will focus on the overuse of antibiotics in food animal production, its impact upon our health and the environment and the alternative practices used by Sweet Stem. By promoting raising animals without the use of antibiotics, Sweet Stem is countering the potentially harmful resistances that can occur with overuse.
