Oregon's Rogue spirits infiltrate Philly

Local drinkers have long been fond of beers from Rogue, but few of us have had the opportunity to try the plethora of spirits the Oregon-based label also produces. That's because they haven't been available in Philly — until now! Tonight at 8 p.m., Varga Bar (941 Spruce St.) gets super Rogue-y with it — they'll tap nine of their beers (and offer four bottles), and they'll also be the first drinkery in the city to pour the distillery's lineup, which includes spruce gin, "pink" gin, Dead Guy whiskey (distilled with the same grains as Rogue's flagship Dead Guy Ale) and hazelnut-spiced rum. They'll also serve cheeses from Rogue's creamery (man, these folks do it all), plus chocolates from nearby Verde.

Their whiskey is fantastic. I've sampled it a few times at Matt's in the Market, a great restaurant overlooking the Sound and Pike's Place Market in Seattle.

I used to love them. But after some back and forth nonsense with the founder/CEO, I now despise everything Rogue. Good beer, poorly run company.

The best Pink Gin is one I've tried in London - by a family distillery called Edgerton - I think Harrods had it as their best recommend or something - anyway - it's a super premium pink gin - distilled with Pomegranate I believe.. Edgerton Original Pink - 47%abv
