5 o'clock somewhere: La Calaca Feliz

Fairmount's La Calaca Feliz (2321 Fairmount Ave.) has a tequila heavy cocktail menu that goes way beyond you run of the mill frozen margaritas. On a recent jaunt up to the bar we sampled I'm a King Bee, an absolutely elegant combo of chamomile infused tequila, honey lemon and basil. The floral notes of the chamomile smoothed out all of the tequila's rough edges, a lone basil leaf offered up licorice notes, and honey and lemon are chamomile's natural go-withs.

Next up was a Garcia Maragrita amped up with fresh watermelon and slivers of jalapeño. The bright sweetness of the watermelon stood up to the raw heat of the chile making for a cocktail with a bite.

Chef Tim Spinner's haute Mexican menu offers up plenty of antojitos i.e. bar eating options including some wonderfully delicate ceviche, tuna and melon on a recent visit and skewers of the most grilled tender guajillo marinated octopus and game changing squash blossom tacos.
